Monday, Monday

Nothing too newsworthy.  Wait a minute.  Yes it is!  I had a picture sort-of professionally framed!  I suppose I shouldn't get too excited about it.  It cost me about the same as a not-on-sale maternity outfit.  And I could use a new dress and pants.

But!

This item has been rolled up in plastic since we got it.  Collecting dust between the armoire and wall.  And since we have no house payments to worry about at the moment, now is the time to get it done.  (I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad about that).

So here she is!

I came in with a 60% off framing coupon.  I was going to have it matted as well.  Which would have put me somewhere in the range of $400.  Yes.  You read that correctly.  Holy Scalping!  This is in pesos right??  Don't get me wrong I LOVE Tim Burton but not THAT much!  I was choking when I told the guy 'okay' to charge me.  (But he was so good to me!)

First he talked me out of the matt, which apparently is what bumps up the cost to astronomical heights.  For this print anyway since it was a non-standard size.  Of course it had to be mine.  Pftht.  So without the matt it bumped me down by a couple hundred.  (I had no idea matts were so expensive...I would've guessed the frame).  AND he also 'highly' recommended having me get the non-glare glass.  Which, naturally, was more expensive.  I think by then I was starting to back away slowly.  He probably saw the scared rabbit look, so he said he'd charge me for the regular glass but put in the non-glare.  Sold!  Though I still feel like I got took.  Because it's Michael's and they would SO do that.

Moral of the story...uh...let your prints stay behind the furniture and collect dust.

Really though, I'm happy to have this on the wall.  In 'The Kid's' room.  It's a little weird because, well...it's Tim Burton.  I'm hoping it sends off Good Karma Burton vibes and not the other kind.  Then again, maybe it's so funky-weird it'll help him memorize his numbers faster.  :)

And since we're on the subject.  I thought I'd add a picture of the one that's in Lady Chan and The Man's room.  This one speaks to me.

  1. Oh how I love Tim Burton - and that print is adorable! Someday you'll have to curate your own shop of art or something. : )

  3. Hi. Can you let me know where you got your 'numbers' print from? We'd love to have one too!

  4. Hi there Phil! Thanks for stopping by! I'm not sure where you can find the print. My husband and I bought Tim Burton's Numbers print when his exhibit was at LACMA. You may want to try their online gift shop?? If you can't find it there and you REALLY want one you can always try contacting some higher up at the museum. Sounds crazy but my husband has actually had good luck going that route for other things. I hope you find a print!

  5. I have this exact same print rolled up collecting dust too next to a shelf ever since purchasing it from LACMA! I also went to Michael's attempting to get it framed and they gave me the same astronomical price the girl even tried to get me to do the matting as well as the non-glare glass, and even after telling her that the price was too high she tried to suggest doing double matting lol because 2 colors would make my print pop more.....um, more like make my wallet pop! I hate that the print is a weird size and wish I would have just purchased the frame at LACMA if I knew it would be this hard to find one to fit!

  6. Hi Lady Chan. I, like you, purchased this print at the LACMA exhibit years ago, and, like you, had held onto it until I had a home to have it framed and hang it in. That day finally came two weeks ago, and like you, I brought my print to Michael's to have it framed. Yesterday they called me and told me that there was an accident in the frame shop and my print got destroyed. I'm devastated and am struggling to find a replacement anywhere. I'm writing to see if you are interested in selling yours? If perhaps by some chance your children have outgrown their room and are no longer interested in this kind of artwork? It's an unusual request I know, but I figured that it couldn't hurt to ask. I would pay handsomely. Thank you for any consideration that you may give to my offer :) Vanessa (vet1931athotmailcom)

    1. Hello tristage! A fellow Burton fan! I am so sorry about your devastating loss. It's like it happened to me that's how bad I feel. I have angry words for Michael's. I say I purchased the print for me kids but if I'm being honest I really purchased for myself. I would love to GIVE you my print but I love it so! I couldn't bare to part with it. Even with so tempting an offer as yours. My awesome husband has a knack for finding deals and asking around. He's not shy at all about contacting anyone and everyone about something he's looking for. My suggestion, following The Man's example, is to contact someone at LACMA. Don't be afraid to email people you think are too busy, etc. You never know. And it's always worth trying. Also, because I'm such a fan and if I found myself in your situation, I would even go so far as contacting some kind of rep for Tim Burton. Poke around. Sounds kind of adventurous even. I might even go on the hunt. Patience and persistence is also a friend of yours. Keep up your search and who knows? Maybe something will pop up one day! I wish you all the best luck, good fortune etc.
      Best,
      Lady Chan
