The Getty and Other Things

I took the kids to the Getty a last week.  June 25th.  I can't believe I braved it.  I was in the mood for a drive and the kids were happy.

Art Class: Rub Transfer Drawing Thingy's

We had class yesterday!  We drew butterfly's (or a ladybug) on one side of a paper with an oil pastel and then folded the paper and rubbed it for a 'mirrored' transfer.

Getting our Greens

This is about as far as my motivation goes for St. Patrick's Day.  At least for now.  Sometimes I surprise even myself with last minute holiday spirit.

Art Class: Creepy Castles

I started up art class again after a few months hiatus.  Actually we started last week (Monday's again) but I forgot to take pictures.

World of Color

We tried something new today!  Yay for breaking the monotony! I can't really take credit for any epiphany you may think I had.  All hail to Pinterest!

Monday, Monday

Nothing too newsworthy.  Wait a minute.  Yes it is!  I had a picture sort-of professionally framed!  I suppose I shouldn't get too excited about it.  It cost me about the same as a not-on-sale maternity outfit.  And I could use a new dress and pants.

But!

This item has been rolled up in plastic since we got it.  Collecting dust between the armoire and wall.  And since we have no house payments to worry about at the moment, now is the time to get it done.  (I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad about that).

So here she is!

I came in with a 60% off framing coupon.  I was going to have it matted as well.  Which would have put me somewhere in the range of $400.  Yes.  You read that correctly.  Holy Scalping!  This is in pesos right??  Don't get me wrong I LOVE Tim Burton but not THAT much!  I was choking when I told the guy 'okay' to charge me.  (But he was so good to me!)

First he talked me out of the matt, which apparently is what bumps up the cost to astronomical heights.  For this print anyway since it was a non-standard size.  Of course it had to be mine.  Pftht.  So without the matt it bumped me down by a couple hundred.  (I had no idea matts were so expensive...I would've guessed the frame).  AND he also 'highly' recommended having me get the non-glare glass.  Which, naturally, was more expensive.  I think by then I was starting to back away slowly.  He probably saw the scared rabbit look, so he said he'd charge me for the regular glass but put in the non-glare.  Sold!  Though I still feel like I got took.  Because it's Michael's and they would SO do that.

Moral of the story...uh...let your prints stay behind the furniture and collect dust.

Really though, I'm happy to have this on the wall.  In 'The Kid's' room.  It's a little weird because, well...it's Tim Burton.  I'm hoping it sends off Good Karma Burton vibes and not the other kind.  Then again, maybe it's so funky-weird it'll help him memorize his numbers faster.  :)

And since we're on the subject.  I thought I'd add a picture of the one that's in Lady Chan and The Man's room.  This one speaks to me.

Deja Vu

'The Man' and I have been talking Christmas shopping lately.  Already.  I know!  And by the MB's standard that's WAY late.

We want to get 'The Kid' some blocks.  We (I) are going for 'learning' toys for our kids.  Little to no plastic toys is the goal.  Especially ones that make noise.  I realize this is our first child and recognize that we've got 'dreams' that may go out the window later on.  (Ah...the idealism of the new parents).

Blocks!  I was talking about blocks!

About a year ago I saw these dreamy blocks on the MOMA web-site.  I've been in love ever since.  And I'm secretly jealous that I saw these on a popular blog as well.  Blast it!  I thought I was so cool for having found these unique blocks.  It was my little secret.  I know.  I'm lame.  But here they are:

Alexander Gerard.

Aren't they beautiful??

And because I LOVE these blocks, they, naturally, are expensive.  I want them for myself.  And I don't feel right about my kid, much as I love him, drooling (etc.) on a set of $120 blocks.  Sigh.

Oddly enough, since I've had these on my mind, I'm seeing some similarities in other things I come across.  Perhaps there's a pattern here, eh?

Like Mary Blair.  Love.

Every trip to Disneyland I realize just how much I love the outside of this ride.  Thanks Mary.

And today I found this guy.

And he's pretty dang cool too.

One more and I swear I'll stop!

Found this guy a couple years ago.  And anyone who wants to buy me a print for Christmas is more than welcome.

Matte Stevens...drool.

Am I crazy or am I really seeing some major similarities here?  Or maybe I've finally tapped into an actual style I like.  (gasp)

It's amazing what a simple 'Christmas shopping' conversation does to my brain.  Happy art-ness!

Tootles!
